Public Forum: Leeds, Baystate and Florence
July 27 at 7 PM at the Florence Civic Center next to Lilly Library.
The Northampton Design Forum, in cooperation with the Baystate Village Association, Florence Civic and Business Association and the Leeds Civic Association is sponsoring a public forum at the Florence Civic Center. The purpose of the forum is to facilitate public dialogue about the principles of sustainability and neighborhood design, including the concepts presented by the Notre Dame Urban Design Studio for two areas of Florence, as well as for Baystate center and Leeds.
The moderator of the event will be Dan Berrien, Chair of the Northampton Design Forum. The first speaker will be Joel Russell, local planner and attorney, who will discuss how sustainability can be achieved through good neighborhood design. Joel will speak for about 15 minutes. Aaron Helfand, a Northampton native who was one of the Notre Dame graduate students who participated in the Design Studio, will then briefly explain the four concepts created by the student team and project images of them on a screen. After Aaron’s presentation, Dan Berrien will moderate a public discussion about sustainability, neighborhood design, and the conceptual neighborhood plan shown. Public discussion will follow.
