The Paradise City Forum

It has occured to me that the people of the city of northampton have expressed many ideas for creative endeavors but yet we always seem to lack the resources to fund them or the place to work on them

We should initiate a commonwealth bank account for the residents of northampton to facilitate various community minded events. The account would be established to solicit funds from the general public, and we could also hold fundraising events to generate money for the account

It would be managed by a group of northampton residents that we would nominate from a public gathering created for discussion of this subject

and if it turns out that we are able to collect enough money, we can look at the idea of a community commonspace or community center, and if not we can use the money to hold community events and fund grassroots local campaigns to improve our city

we would use a democratic process for deciding how to allocate money from this account and hold a general body meeting of northampton residents who have ideas for how to use the money every 3 months or quarterly

Something like this would create a community resource as well as a centralization of effort and information to promote community and cooperative endeavors

A working group of northampton residents including myself are planning a general public forum, at Jackson st school April 29th 2008 6pm, these and other ideas will be up for discussion
